Why solid oak
Most “wooden” personalised boards sold in the UK are bamboo — a fast-growing grass, pressed and glued into sheet form, typically costing a couple of pounds a blank. It works, but it is not timber, it does not age, and it cannot be resurfaced.
Solid European oak is dense, closed-grain and long-lived. It can be sanded flat and re-oiled decades later. It gains colour rather than losing it. It is the material you buy once.
